The Weeping Rock Trail is one of the most popular trails in Zion National Park. This trail is enjoyable year round, but is especially refreshing on a hot summer day. The trail leads to a large alcove where the bottom layer of sandstone has eroded away. Water from the mesa above seeps from a spring line on the cliff wall.
Similar to the Emerald Pools, the presence of water creates an oasis in the desert. The microclimate of ferns, flowers, and mosses growing on the cliff wall are often referred to as hanging gardens.
The trail to Weeping Rock is half-mile round trip. While one of the shorter hikes in Zion National Park, this trail is somewhat steep and has steps near the viewing area. From the trailhead, you will cross a bridge and then turn left up the paved trail to the viewing area.
The trailhead for Weeping Rock is also the starting point for other Zion hikes including Hidden Canyon and Observation Point.
