The Hidden Canyon Trail is one of the strenuous hiking trails in Zion National Park. Situated between Cable Mountain and the Great White Throne, Hidden Canyon is a hanging canyon 1000 feet above Zion Canyon below. The trail to Hidden Canyon is steep and exposes you to big drop offs. Like Angels Landing, a section of this trail has chains to assist you.
The Hidden Canyon Trail begins at the Weeping Rock Trailhead. For the first 3/4 miles (1.2 kms) this trail zig-zags up a set of steep switchbacks heading up the east side of Zion Canyon. A little over a mile in, steps carved into the sandstone take you to the most intimidating section of the trail. Though not difficult, the trail narrows to only a few feet in width flanked by an 800 foot drop. This part of the trail can be a challenge to those with a fear of heights. Once past this section in a short time you arrive at the entrance to Hidden Canyon.
The entrance to this hanging canyon is the official end of the maintained trail. If you are up for an adventure, you can make your way up Hidden Canyon to explore. Be prepared to do some scrambling over slickrock and climbing over boulders. About one half mile up the canyon is a free standing arch. This is the point where most people turn around and return the way they came.
Trailhead
The trailhead for the Hidden Canyon Trail is shared with the Weeping Rock trailhead. Weeping Rock is the seventh stop of the Zion Canyon shuttle.
